MARAIS VOUS ADVICE

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Our jewellery is made by hand with natural and non-allergenic materials. Some pieces are more fragile and require a slight maintenance.

We advise you to keep your jewels separately in a dry place. Avoid contact with water. Do not bathe or shower with them. Remove your jewels during sports activities. Avoid contact with detergents, alcohol, cosmetic, products (soap, perfume, cream etc.). Do not keep them for sleeping.

Jewels made with 925 sterling silver can slightly oxidize. Many silver cleaning products exist. These products are often aggressive on the skin, do not forget to wear gloves !

But we suggest :
– To soak them in a bath of warm water and rub them delicately with a soft toothbrush and washing-up liquid.
– To use tinfoil and bicarbonate in a bowl of warm water to avoid toxic waste.

MATERIALS

What is gold plated ?

It is in general brass covered with gold between 14 and 18 carats by an electrical and chemical process on a layer of a thickness of 3 microns.

The guarantee mark is not compulsory on gold-plated jewellery.
_

What is gold-filled ?

The gold-filled finish is a gold-plated technique that comes from the United States. This is a 14 carats gold finish applied to a brass base. The weight of gold corresponds to 1/20 of the total weight of the product, which is about 50 to 100 times more than in a plated product.

Gold-filled jewellery looks like gold jewellery for a much lower cost. Much more resistant than a classicgold plated, a gold-filled product will oxidize much less quickly.
_

What is gold-flashed ?

A jewel covered with gold in general 16 carats. The plating layer is less than 3 microns.

What is sterling silver ?

Sterling silver is a metal alloy made of 92.5% pure silver mixed with 7.5% other metals – usually copper or zinc. Because pure silver is so soft, it is combined with these other metals to make it more durable for use in jewellery. To identify the percentage of pure silver in the alloy, the number 925 is stamped discreetly on the jewellery as a quality mark. There’s no difference between sterling silver and 925 silver – they’re the same silver alloy, just by different names.
_

What is a fine gemstones ?

Fine gemstones are often set into the gold-plated and sterling silver pieces in our jewellery collections.
